The first foundation stone was laid out today for this border crossing and it is expected that it improves and streamlines the entry of vehicles through four toll-based lanes. According to institutions, waiting times to enter the US will be reduced to 20 minutes at most. This construction will add something positive to both cities through an economic and environmental development.

This project is a collaboration between the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) as well as state and federal organizations and partners from the US and Mexico. This road will be connected to U.S. Customs and Border Protection offices as well as a commercial vehicle control center managed by the California Highway Patrol.
Among the improvements that were announced there are a waiting time detection system, information about travelers who plan their trips in advance, as well as an optimization of the port of entry in order to prevent traffic congestion and long waiting times.
