To finalize the launch of the new SENTRI lane, Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz met Monday with Mariza Marín, director of the San Ysidro Port of Entry for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The meeting was part of coordinated efforts that will begin Wednesday, November 19, aimed at improving cross-border mobility and easing traffic flow at the San Ysidro crossing.
During the discussion, officials confirmed that two inspection booths will operate with access through Calle Segunda in Tijuana’s downtown area. The lanes will be open from 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily.
The project is part of a broader plan to reorganize vehicle crossings into the United States, intended to relieve heavy morning traffic on key thoroughfares such as Paseo de los Héroes, caused by the high volume of northbound vehicles.
“This strategy represents an important step toward reducing congestion and improving the experience for those who cross our border every day,” said Mayor Burgueño Ruiz. “We continue to work closely with CBP to deliver real solutions for the community.”

The new booths, accessible via Calle Segunda, will allow a more direct route for drivers coming from Playas de Tijuana and the southern part of the state, avoiding the city’s central area.
Exclusive SENTRI Access Through Calle Segunda
Under this new configuration, Calle Segunda will be reserved exclusively for SENTRI users, while Padre Kino will maintain its regular access route. General traffic lanes (“All Traffic”) will continue operating through Paseo de los Héroes.
“Tijuana continues to move toward becoming a more agile, modern, and efficient city—one where binational cooperation translates into well-being and opportunity for our residents,” Mayor Burgueño Ruiz added.
Also attending the meeting were Tijuana’s Minister of Economic Development, Pedro Montejo Peterson; the city’s Director of Economic Promotion, Óscar Higuera Betancourt; and representatives from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
