The confirmation of the arrival of the new strain of coronavirus in San Diego, California in the United States was reported last December 30th through this news site.
Due to the proximity of Baja California and this American city, this morning the Secretary of Health of the Mexican State, Alonso Pérez Rico, was asked if any case has been reported in the entity and if some extraordinary measures will be applied due to the new variant of COVID-19.
"No, no confirmed cases of this new strain have been detected yet, unfortunately as the virus has been working, specifically the coronavirus 2019, it is subject to mutations or changes, this is completely normal. All viral strains, for example influenza, change and mutate every year, Covid is not exempt from that. Surely there are already more than one hundred variations of Covid," mentioned Pérez Rico this Saturday.
Regarding the preventive measures for the possible arrival of the new British strain, as it is also known, the Secretary said: "something very important, regardless of the fact that it is more contagious, more lethal and with more severe symptoms; it is prevented in the same way, with social distancing, using my mask, having good ventilation and the most important thing we have to know, Covid does not spontaneously come out of the air, someone transmits it; it is transmitted from person to person," he said.
In this context, the doctor urged that we continue to take care of ourselves and continue with the hygiene protocols, and above all, reduce mobility to only essential activities.
