The popular cookie shop Schmackary’s Cookies, widely considered a New York favorite, officially opened its first West Coast location in San Diego with a grand celebration in the Hillcrest neighborhood.
The opening featured a special two-day event with giveaways, discounts and promotions for early visitors. During the launch, dozens of people lined up outside the store to take part in the free cookie giveaway.

A Brand Born Near Broadway
Schmackary’s was founded in 2011 by Zachary Schmahl in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, just steps from Broadway’s theater district. Over the years, the shop became a gathering spot for actors, dancers and tourists.

The brand eventually gained widespread popularity and came to be known as the “official cookie of Broadway.” Its success is driven in part by a wide range of flavors, blending classics such as chocolate chip, funfetti and maple bacon with rotating seasonal creations and themed collaborations tied to theater productions and television.

Where to Find the New San Diego Shop
The new location opened at 1255 University Avenue in Hillcrest, in the space previously occupied by the restaurant Freshii.
This stretch of University Avenue is known for its heavy foot traffic, restaurants and nightlife, features that echo the lively atmosphere where the brand first took shape in New York.
Schmackary’s will operate from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., allowing visitors to enjoy its cookies throughout the day and into the evening.
