TIJUANA Occupy Tijuana activists invited the population to rally on both sides of the border at the same time Saturday at 2 p.m. in a demonstration they are billing "Ocupación Binacional."
Organizers announced that their goal was to promote social consciousness through workshops and in schools.
Volunteer instructors will teach ways ordinary people can effectively influence the political and economic decisions affecting their city to generate positive change, according to an announcement from the organizers.
The "occupation" will occur at the lighthouse at Playas de Tijuana on the Mexico side, and in Friendship Park on the U.S. one. Access to the latter is restricted so it's unclear how many activists will be allowed to "occupy" the area.
On Oct. 15, dozens of Occupy Tijuana activists camped at a traffic circle in the Río zone, saying they had been inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement. The protesters, dubbed "indignados" in Mexico, were removed three days later by municipal police.
