The pictures show different people posing alongside a dead bighorn sheep, a vulnerable species and a representative animal of Baja California.

Carlos Velarde expressed his concerns to the authorities and showed empathy to the animal.

On the other hand, Angel Romval asked for awareness and respect towards the states fauna.
Baja California is precisely the only state in Mexico that prohibits the animals hunting and apparently the hunters got their permits issued in Baja California Sur, acting with impunity in the northern state.
According to statements made to local newspaper Frontera, the head of Mexicos environment ministry office in the state, Alfonso Blancafort Camarena, said that due to an initiative made by the states most important autonomous university, the hunting of the Bighorn sheep is now completely illegal.
However, even with this, the numbers of this endangered animal has diminished even more, with around 600 of them, most of them in La Rumorosa.
Camarena also stated that its the state governments responsibility to regulate the illegal hunting of the species and not Mexicos environment ministry, since its the states who issue these permits.
Lastly, he stated that its a pretty common practice for hunters to hunt in Baja California and then register the animal in Baja California Sur or any other neighboring state.
