More than 100 business and community leaders from San Diego and Baja California will travel to Mexico City next week to advocate for a stronger U.S.-Mexico relationship, addressing key issues vital to the binational business community. The visit comes at a pivotal time amid Mexico’s political transition.
The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 19th Annual Binational Delegation to Mexico City will promote a set of priorities for advancing the Cali-Baja region, including water management and infrastructure, tourism, and economic growth. From Sunday, October 12, through Wednesday, October 15, the delegation will meet with Mexican leaders and officials to strengthen economic ties and explore new opportunities for collaboration.

“Bringing leaders from both sides of the border together for this trip is essential to strengthening our regional economy,” said Chris Cate, President and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. “These conversations in Mexico City give us the chance to directly advocate for the priorities that most impact our region’s businesses and families. When we show up as a united binational delegation, we highlight the unique role our region plays in driving prosperity and opportunity across Cali-Baja.”

The delegation of more than 100 members includes a diverse mix of business leaders, industry organizations, and public officials from San Diego and Baja California, including:

- Todd Gloria, Mayor of San Diego
- John McCann, Mayor of Chula Vista
- John Duncan, Mayor of Coronado

- Pedro Montejo, Secretary of Economic Development, City of Tijuana
- San Diego City Councilmembers Marni von Wilpert, Vivian Moreno, and Stephen Whitburn
- Tijuana City Councilmembers Georgina Arana Cruz, Pablo Yáñez Placencia, and Lemuel Ramírez
- Chula Vista City Councilmembers Carolina Chávez, Michael Inzunza, and Cesar Fernández
- Tecate City Councilmember Isaac Contreras
- Adrián Humberto Valle, State Deputy, Baja California
- Alicia Kerber-Palma, Ambassador and Consul General of Mexico in San Diego

The delegation’s agenda includes meetings and events such as:
- A special reception at the residence of U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson
- A session with Roberto Velasco, Chief Officer for North America at Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE)
- Meetings with members of the Mexican Senate
- A water management and infrastructure dialogue with representatives from the North American Development Bank (NADBank), Mexico’s National Water Commission (CONAGUA), and the Mexican Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (CILA)
- A discussion with Mexico’s and Baja California’s Secretaries of Tourism
The Chamber will also host a live press conference on Monday, October 13, at 9:00 a.m. (PST) to share more details about these efforts. Speakers include Chris Cate, President and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce; San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria; and Mexico’s Consul General in San Diego, Ambassador Alicia G. Kerber-Palma.
