Passenger traffic at Mexicali International Airport rose by 41.2% in May 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, according to the latest data from the Pacific Airport Group (GAP).

“The capital of transformation mobilized a total of 104,100 passengers during the fifth month of the year, surpassing the 73,700 passengers reported in May 2024,” said Mayor Norma Bustamante.

This sharp increase reflects the ongoing recovery of tourism activity in the region. Additionally, business travel continues to be a defining feature of the city’s economy.

According to the Bank of Mexico’s Regional Economies report, business tourism in Mexicali is primarily driven by the manufacturing sector and medical tourism, both of which contribute significantly to the city’s economic output.

From January through May 2025, air passenger traffic in Mexicali rose by 15.6% compared to the same period last year, also according to GAP.

In absolute terms, Mexicali recorded more than 504,000 passengers as of May 31, 2025, up from just over 436,000 during the same period in 2024.
