TIJUANA.- In response to requests and concerns of business owners on Avenida Revolucion (one of the main streets of Tijuana's Downtown), a special pedestrian police unit will be employed to patrol the popular street. This was announced by Downtown Tijuana's representative, Karim Chalita Rodriguez, during a meeting with local business owners and Edwin Montes, Chief of the Tourist Police Unit.
Among the most common requests by local business owners, was that municipal authorities employ more police officers to watch the area to prevent pickpockets, and provide security to people visiting the area at all times.
In response to this situation, the pedestrian police unit has now begun operations, so that they can patrol the street and immediately respond to reports of an altercation or theft.
"We need bring back the levels of confidence and security to this downtown area, so that locals and tourists alike may feel safe when visiting this area. Officials with special service skills have been tasked with this area, in order to ensure that they treat visitors as cordially and respectfully as possible", according to Chalita Rodriguez.
He also asked the community to help out by reporting theft or any suspicious behavior, as well as any agent whom they believe is not doing his or her job; additionally, he asked that the various sectors elect a representative so that any concern or need can be directly communicated to the Downtown Delegation efficiently and receive a faster response.
In terms of special operations for this long holiday weekend, he indicated that the tourist area will have more security details, starting at the border entrance all the way to Avenida Revolucion and surrounding areas.
