José López Portillo y Luis Echeverría

The title of this document is: THE ECHEVERRIA-LOPEZ PORTILLO TRANSITION: THINKING ABOUT THE UNTHINKABLE"dated August 6, 1976, which has now been released by Wikileaks, where in the document it argues that Echeverria was planning to kill president-elect Lopez Portillo in order to extend his term in power.

This plan was thought to be just a rumor throughout the whole time.

The main reason for this plot was the hunger to remain in power of Echeverria, where Lopez Portillo was talk about being killed before taking office which had the U.S. government on alert, and also because the murder would be attributed to the CIA.
