Thousands of people within the religious community in Europe, gathered at the Vatican to hear Pope Francis talk about his posture regarding the alarming immigration situation.
The Pope called upon different parishes, monasteries, and sanctuaries across Europe to unite as a great family, in communion with the refugees. Due to the fact that the number of people who arrive by land or the Mediterranean sea has increased, as well as the number of those who unfortunately has lost their life in the process, someone had to take the first step to make a change.
Taking into account that the refugees run away from the civil war in Syria, and don't have the necessary means to survive, the Pope urges the 25,000 parishes in Italy as well as the others that exist in the continent, to open their doors and provide help to those who arrive to their church.
If every house or church, gave shelter to a family of refugees, history will be completely different. While it may be true that is not that simple to allow complete strangers into our home, the majority are just people in search for a better life quality willing to do what ever it takes. Pope Francis highlighted that this an opportunity for Catholics to show some mercy.
Throughout 2015, over 366,000 refugees have crossed the Mediterranean sea to Europe and nearly 3,000 have passed away or disappeared.
