During her visit to Baja California, President Sheinbaum emphasized that while significant progress has been made in the state and across the country, the goal is to achieve even more. To that end, she announced the investment of 430 million pesos, aimed at ensuring that “all operating rooms are fully equipped and staffed with medical and nursing personnel.”

Meanwhile, Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda stated:

“Today, it is clear that when one governs for the people, with the people, and from the people, rights are guaranteed, and hope becomes certainty. Transformation lives in every operating room, in every consultation, in every life-saving treatment that restores dignity.”

Equipment upgrades, facility renovations, and additional staff hiring will ensure that all 39 operating rooms across Baja California’s 10 public hospitals function at maximum capacity. This includes completing the pending operating room at Tijuana General Hospital in the Eastern Zone.

In addition, a new hemodynamics room will be built at the Tijuana General Hospital, which will provide immediate care for cardiovascular patients, eliminating the need for emergency transfers to Mexicali.

Moreover, a full ICU conversion and equipment modernization to enhance neonatal and critical care, particularly for women and newborns will take place at Mexicali’s Maternal-Child Hospital and a new linear accelerator, advanced cancer treatment technology to improve care and expand coverage for patients across the state, will be installed at Mexicali’s Oncology Unit.

Lastly, comprehensive re-equipment of hospitals and health centers will be taking place and will include replacement of outdated CT scanners and medical equipment, along with hiring medical staff in underserved areas.
