TIJUANA. – Right before the Mayoral debate that the Electoral Institute and Citizen Participation of Baja California organized last night, PRI supporters armed with sticks from their red flags, water and foam attacked the PAN party candidate, Alejandro Monraz and his campaign team as they arrived for the debate.

This incident happened just outside the hotel which hosted the debate for mayor, where Miguel Lemus suffered some minor injuries and received first aid at the scene.

Early in the afternoon PRI supporters dressed in red shirts and scarves took possession of the Cuauhtemoc round-about in the Rio Zone area in Tijuana, and cheered for their candidates. Later on, supporters for the PAN party arrived and that’s when all of the attacks from the PRI party supporters against PAN supporters began.

Former mayoral candidate, Alberto Entebi, who from 4p.m. was in the area, was also assaulted by supporters of "Compromiso por Baja California" (Commitment to Baja California).

Around 5:20p.m. the PRI party candidate, Dr. Jorge Astiazaran Orci , arrived at the site and was received with clamor by those who were present, and who also formed a barrier outside of the building to let him pass through.

A few minutes later Monraz's team approached the area and looked for a way that their candidate could enter without any problems, since they stated that the "Reds" (PRI) were alerted of their arrival.

Monraz got out of his vehicle by the side of the hotel building, but when detected, PRI supporters greeted him with insults and assaulted.

So far, members of "Commitment to Baja California," have not released a statement about the incident.
