A wave of panic has recently hit immigrants living in the United States, as immigration authorities have intensified deportation operations in different states aroundthe country.

California was not the exception, according to data from civil organizations. This area of the country also saw increased raids, as the city of San Diego recorded incidents in the last five days.

Director of the Friends of San Diego Committee, Pedro Rios said these arrests are "normal" in this part of the border where only 10 detainees were held in the last five days according to their data.

He said that a large number of these detainees had criminal records, which were not necessarily of a major nature; many others were arrested for recidivism when crossing again, which are punished further.

Rios pointed out that people are being afraid of these raids thinking that these are new by President Donald Trump; but these have been coming from previous administrations with Bush and Obama.

Martha Varela, the spokeswoman of the Mexican Consulate in the United States, mentioned that she has not received evidence to support the alleged raids against Mexicans in the United States.

While the Consulate is unaware of this situation, activists claim that Customs Agents and Border Protection have been present in shopping centers or work areas in order to intimidate and cause fear among the immigrant community; said the founder, Enrique Morones, of the civil organization Angels Of the Borders.

California's population is in a high number made up of Latino immigrants who are concentrated mostly in urban areas like Los Angeles and Southern California.
