A new fast-track border lane for Tijuana residents who work in the United States is expected to open in 2026.
The lane will function similarly to the existing student crossing program, which operates through a monthly fee that allows users access to quicker, more streamlined lines.
Pedro Montejo Peterson, Tijuana’s economic development secretary, said the registration call for the new program will open next week. The application window will run through the last two weeks of December and the first week of January 2026.

Montejo Peterson noted that the program’s launch depends on the approval of the city’s revenue law, which Mayor Ismael Burgueño plans to submit to the Baja California Congress. If the measure passes, officials will be able to announce the cost and specific requirements for participants. The project could roll out sometime between mid-2026 and the end of the year.
