MEXICO.- After more than two months since his disappearance on September 26th, one of the missing "43" students of a teacher training school in Guerrero has been confirmed dead. While this conclusion was widely expected and comes as no surprise, it does serve as a reaffirmation for the thousands of protesters across the country who have endlessly kept this story alive in the more than two months since the incident occurred.
The charred remains of 19-year-old, Alexander Mora Venanciano, were found in a trash dump in Cocula and examined by Argentinian specialists that are working on an investigation of the massacre along with federal authorities. According to the father of the victim, the specialists had only a fragment one of his bones and jaw bone to test for a DNA match.
It is believed that all 43 were killed, burned, and disposed of in the trash site allegedly after being delivered to the hands of a drug cartel by municipal police forces. The police were working under orders of the local mayor and his wife, who were related to the Guerreros Unidos drug cartel. The couple fled after news of the massacre began to circulate, only to be captured more than a month later hiding out in Mexico City.
The official website operated by the victims' families have released a statement in the voice of the confirmed dead victim, stating "Today, December 6th, Argentinian experts have confirmed to my father that one of the fragments found belongs to me… Do not leave my father alone in his anguish, as hope, pride, energy, work and dignity means almost everything to him. I invite you to double down on efforts, so that my death is not in vain."
