TIJUANA.-It seems that since "Puerta Mexico" (on the San Ysidro area) was remodeled, the problems haven't seized for people who cross this border by foot from the US to Mexico.
First there was the confusion of where the border was and now this issue with taxi drivers and the problems between them, since the drivers of the yellow cabs have moved their vehicles towards the famous Xicontencatl ramp, where the new walking access is located, blocking the old one.
So what is the problem exactly? That the drivers of the taxis are complaining about the harassment that they suffer on behave of the yellow cab drivers. Victor Manuel Rodriguez, taxi driver states: "The yellow cabs are wrong, they want to take over everything, they are either paying a cop or I don't know who they are paying to get them to move us out of there."
Even the users of this service are complaining and say that it costs them double to use a yellow cab and feel that in some way they are making them use this service.
The representative of the Yellow Cabs, Jesus Reynoso has assured that they were never told about the disappearance of this cross walk and expressed "Taxis don't really have a spot to be parked and pick up passengers, because of the way that they operate, they always have to be in circulation, they want to use this spot and it's where we work, that causes this problem."
On the other hand, the Mayor of Tijuana, Carlos Bustamante, confirmed that meetings will be held shortly to coordinate drivers.
Alcide Roberto Beltrones, General Secretary of Government in Tijuana assured: "We had a grave problems with the state and federal government; they brought a hidden agenda and never told us what they were going to do, so now we are participating with the government to put an end to these issues and find a solution".
