Mayor Rocío Adame of Playas de Rosarito joined forces with state and federal leaders at the “Voices for Equality and Against Violence” Women’s Assembly, outlining concrete steps toward creating a community free from gender-based violence.

The gathering brought together women from diverse backgrounds for a day of dialogue and strategy-sharing, focusing on practical solutions to achieve substantive equality and eliminate all forms of violence against women.

The assembly featured prominent political figures, including Mayor Rocío Adame; Ingrid Gómez Saracibar, Undersecretary for the Right to a Life Free of Violence at the Secretariat of Women; Yannett Sepúlveda Carreón, Councilor President of the Gender Equality and Human Rights Commission; Irami Cortez de los Ángeles, Director of the Municipal Women’s Institute (IMMUJER); and Rebecca Vega Arriola, Baja California’s Secretary for Women.

During her address, Mayor Rocío Adame emphasized that eradicating violence against women everyone’s job. She underlined the importance of recognizing all kinds of physical, economic, verbal, psychological, and digital violence to make progress toward a more just and equitable society.

“More and more, the voices of women are being heard. Today we are building a Rosarito where women are strength, inspiration, and transformation,” the mayor said.

The assembly also served as a platform for President Claudia Sheinbaum’s national initiatives, including the “Weavers of the Nation” network (a countrywide mutual support system for women). The Weavers of the Nation Network aims to facilitate coordination and communication among women from different regions, creating a supportive network of mutual aid to accompany, guide, and provide help to any woman in need.

The meeting highlighted several successful initiatives making a difference in women’s daily lives:

  • Violet Transport: The program’s six women-exclusive public transport routes have proven so successful that expansion to additional neighborhoods is planned, providing safe, gender-sensitive mobility options.
  • Orange Points: These established safe spaces offer immediate support and resources to women in need throughout the community.
  • Smart Button Technology: A mobile safety tool that puts emergency assistance directly in women’s hands through their devices.

During the assembly, President Claudia Sheinbaum’s initiative to promote the creation of one oncology hospital in each state of the country was also underscored, as they aim to guarantee timely and quality medical care for women with cancer. This project is part of a national comprehensive health strategy with actions that reflect the Mexican Government’s commitment to the early detection, treatment, and prevention of breast cancer, one of the leading causes of mortality among women.

Playas de Rosarito received formal recognition from the federal government for its outstanding organization of the assembly, highlighting effective collaboration between municipal, state, and federal authorities.

“We are working hand in hand with state and federal governments to build responsive public policies that guarantee women’s human rights and safety. This is the path toward transformation,” Mayor Rocío Adame concluded.
