World superstar Ronaldinho Gaucho and his Atletico Mineiro teammates are awaiting the winner of the ClubTijuana – Palmeiras matchup for the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores. The Minerio squad destroyed fellow Brazilians São Paulo FC with a 6-2 aggregate score.
The team from the state of Minas Gerais has really shined in this year's Copa Libertadores winning five out of their six games in group three. During that group stage the former Barcelona midfielder's team manage to score 16 goals while only receiving nine.m
Once in the round of 16 Atletico Mineiro went into the Morumbi stadium of São Paulo and got a 1-2 win on the road. Back at home at the Raimundo Sampaio stadium, Atletico Mineiro beat the Paulistas 4-1 to advance into the quarterfinals.
Now in the quarterfinals stage they await the winner of Xolos and the "Verdao" as the Palmeiras team is know making reference to their green uniform and logo. The aggregate score is currently 0-0 and all the Tijuana Xolos need is a win or a draw with goals. A 0-0 would send the game into penalties.
If Club Tijuana are able to get through Palmeiras they would open up at home against Atletico Mineiro and close out the series in Brazil. The quarterfinals stage is set to commence on May 23.
