After recent rains swept debris into local waterways, Rosarito officials launched an emergency cleanup along Huacatay Creek and Playa Zona Centro.
City crews moved in to remove tires, plastic, driftwood and other trash carried by storm runoff. The fast-moving water pushed debris downstream, where it collected in the creek and along the shoreline.

Mayor Rocío Adame ordered the cleanup, calling for quick action to protect the coastal environment and keep public spaces safe for residents and visitors.

The effort was led by ZOFEMAT, the agency responsible for Mexico’s federal maritime zones, with teams focusing on pollution in the creek that could eventually reach the ocean. At the same time, workers combed Downtown Beach — one of Rosarito’s most popular stretches of sand — to clear away debris and restore the area.

City officials say the goal is to prevent long-term damage to the coastline while keeping beaches clean and welcoming, especially as tourism remains strong.

The city also urged residents to help by properly disposing of trash and reporting problem areas after heavy rain, noting that community cooperation plays a key role in protecting Rosarito’s shoreline.
