The Economic Culture Fund’s (FCE) two-day “Tendidos de Libros” (Book Spreads) event concluded successfully this week, attracting hundreds of local families, children, and youth to the Municipal Palace courtyard.

The event, designed to make literature accessible to all, featured a wide array of affordable books, literary activities, and author discussions. Attendees browsed countless titles and participated in events aimed at sparking a passion for reading across all ages.

“I will always support efforts that allow reading to reach every corner of our municipality. Literature is a tool that transforms and strengthens our community and we are proud to see so many families coming to the fair,” Mayor Rocío Adame said.

The final day’s events began with a presentation of Gus Picazo’s children’s book, “Historietas Dinosauricas Volumen 1: Dinoaventura Mesozoica.” The author used dinosaur adventures to make complex topics relatable for young readers, fostering empathy, imagination, and the natural curiosity of childhood.

Later, storyteller and editor Karlha Ochoa led a panel titled “Read to Believe: Reading, Narrative, and Digital Creation in the Age of the Algorithm.” She challenged the notion that young people don’t read, arguing that digital platforms have instead created new, vibrant literary communities.

“Literary works can change the world,” Ochoa stated, encouraging the audience to build communities of curious minds through shared reading, highlighting that that literature functions as a bridge connecting diverse experiences, ideas, and realities.

Mayor Rocío Adame thanked the Economic Culture Fund and the state government for making this event possible, stating that these spaces strengthen cultural access in Rosarito and promote children’s educational, emotional, and creative development.

“In Playas de Rosarito, we will continue to promote activities that encourage love for reading and bring knowledge to all families. Our commitment is to make culture an accessible right for every Rosarito native,” she said.

With the conclusion of the book fair’s second day, the 10th City Hall of Playas de Rosarito reaffirms its mission to promote education, critical thinking, and the creation of cultural spaces that strengthen community well-being and participation.
