Playas de Rosarito experienced a significant surge in tourism over the past weekend, with hotels and restaurants reporting near-capacity crowds.
The spike in visitors was driven by the perfect alignment of Valentine’s Day and the Presidents Day holiday weekend in the United States.
According to César Rivera González, president of the Rosarito Hotel and Motel Association (AMHM), the destination reached a milestone on Saturday, February 14, with hotel occupancy hitting 100%.

This marks an increase from the 91% occupancy rate recorded during the same period last year, signaling a strong upward trend for the local tourism industry.
Meanwhile, Octavio Machado, president of CANIRAC Rosarito, reported that a survey of its member establishments confirmed the Valentine’s Day weekend as one of the most critical periods for the restaurant sector.
Rivera attributed the successful weekend to a confluence of factors, including the fortunate timing of the binational holidays, excellent weather conditions, and the effectiveness of ongoing promotional campaigns aimed at positioning Rosarito as a premier tourist destination.

The positive indicators began on Friday, February 13, where a sample of lodging establishments monitored by tourism authorities showed occupancy at 74%, climbing from 66% the previous year. On Saturday, hotel occupancy was 100%, compared to 91% last year.
Regarding restaurants, a large percentage of them saw sales increases of more than 30%, while another segment enjoyed a boost of 10% to 30%. Many establishments, particularly during the evenings of Friday and Saturday, reported being near or at full seating capacity.

Rivera González emphasized that the AMHM remains committed to driving tourism by continuing to offer special packages and promotions for local, national, and international tourists. The goal is to encourage longer stays and more overnight bookings to sustain the positive economic impact throughout the year.
With this performance, Rosarito reaffirms its status as a key player in the region’s culinary and coastal tourism, successfully capitalizing on key dates to draw visitors from both sides of the border.
