Playas de Rosarito observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October with a health fair, emphasizing the critical importance of early detection and preventative care in the fight against the disease. Organized under the direction of Mayor Rocío Adame, the event aimed to bolster public well-being by providing free health services and promoting a culture of proactive health management.

The initiative was a collaborative effort, involving the Municipal Institutes for Women (IMMUJER), Youth (IMJUVER), and Sports (IMDER), alongside the local DIF System and civil society groups like the Proyecto Celene and Anaby foundations.
Residents had access to a range of complimentary services, including medical and dental care, nutrition counseling, HIV testing, and vouchers for mammograms and prostate exams. The fair also featured informational booths from local universities, community liaison spaces, and a market for women entrepreneurs.

The day’s proceedings included a solemn minute of silence for those lost to breast cancer, followed by the symbolic raising of a pink flag and the formation of a human pink ribbon as a powerful display of community solidarity.
In addition, IMDER followed the ceremony with a “Pink Zumba” class, encouraging physical activity in an atmosphere of positive energy.

In her speech, Mayor Rocío Adame underscored the importance of commemorating such a significant cause and invited the community to perform regular self-examinations and prioritize prevention.
“Today is a day to remember that we must perform self-exams and support those facing this disease. We dress in pink in commemoration, but this color now represents bravery, not pain. It is a reminder that women and men can walk through these circumstances with confidence and hope,” the mayor said.

Officials also highlighted a significant local achievement, noting that Baja California now exceeds the national average for the early detection of breast cancer. This milestone underscores the effectiveness of ongoing awareness campaigns and institutional efforts to address this public health challenge.

With these events, the 10th City Hall of Playas de Rosarito reaffirms its commitment to citizen health and well-being, championing initiatives focused on prevention and timely medical care.
