Playas de Rosarito is set to join the international tennis circuit after city officials announced the coastal city will host the Copa Niza tournament in 2026.
Mayor Rocío Adame confirmed the news during a press conference, calling the event a strategic step in positioning Rosarito as a destination for sports tourism and international investment. The tournament will take place at the city’s Municipal Tennis Center and is sanctioned by the Mexican Tennis Federation.
Scheduled for the summer of 2026, Copa Niza will include four professional tournaments—two men’s and two women’s events—approved by the International Tennis Federation. The competitions, planned for May and June, will offer prize purses ranging from $15,000 to $25,000.

Adame said the tournament is expected to bring international visibility to Rosarito while boosting the local economy through increased hotel stays, restaurant activity, and transportation services.
“These tournaments put Playas de Rosarito on the global map while strengthening our economy and expanding opportunities for young athletes,” the mayor said.
Carlos Ricardo González López de Lara, president of the Mexican Tennis Federation, said Rosarito’s municipal facilities are well suited to host international-level competition and will attract players from across the Americas, including Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, and Mexico.

City officials also announced plans to convert the Municipal Tennis Center into a year-round high-performance facility. In coordination with City Hall, the center will offer youth programs, scholarships, coaching certification courses, and local tournaments aimed at developing homegrown talent.
The mayor linked the tennis initiative to broader economic growth, citing increased private investment, real estate development, and Rosarito’s growing profile as a secure destination for large-scale events. Copa Niza will join other major gatherings such as the Tianguis Turístico and Baja Fest in drawing national and international visitors.

Officials confirmed the tennis center will remain open to the public for recreational and training use, maintaining free access for residents.
With the addition of Copa Niza in 2026, Rosarito officials say the city is working to combine international sports, community access, and economic development under a long-term vision for growth.
