Playas de Rosarito Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz toured the iconic cempasúchil fields at Macías Ranch in El Descanso this week. The visit, set against the backdrop of the upcoming Day of the Dead celebrations, highlighted the cultural significance of the vibrant marigold flower.
The mayor walked through the sprawling fields, recognizing the multi-generational efforts of families like the Macías, who have cultivated these flowers for decades. Their work provides the central symbol for local ofrendas (altars), infusing Rosarito’s traditions with color and meaning.

“The cempasúchil is more than decoration; it embodies the love and respect we hold for our departed loved ones. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to the rural communities that preserve these traditions, which are fundamental to Rosarito’s identity,” the mayor said.
Mayor Rocío Adame met with farmworkers, discussing their cultivation processes and the seasonal challenges they face. She emphasized the importance of supporting spaces like Rancho Macías, which contribute not only cultural and historical value but also economic vitality to the region.

Amid the scent of the sea and the bright orange blooms, the event was a strong reminder of the deep connection between life, death, and heritage in Mexican culture, that each flower serves as a tribute to ancestors.
The Playas de Rosarito government stated that such initiatives reinforce its commitment to preserving Mexican traditions, supporting the agricultural sector, and strengthening the community fabric that defines the municipality.
