In order to prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the city of Rosarito is set to undergo a significant upgrade of its public sports infrastructure. Mayor Rocío Adame recently took part in a key meeting to unveil a new national program aimed at revitalizing athletic spaces across the country.
During the presentation, officials outlined the technical, legal, and social criteria that will determine which venues in Baja California are selected for improvement, as well as the project roadmap from application to final approval.

The program is a joint effort led by the Department of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU), the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE), and the Institute of Sport of Baja California (INDE), in close coordination with the Rosarito city government. The primary goal is to ensure all interventions are high-quality, legally sound, and supported by the community.
According to initial reports, the first phase will prioritize smaller community fields, specifically those used for 5-a-side and 7-a-side football. Planned upgrades for these facilities are comprehensive and include the installation of new goals and nets, resurfacing of playing fields, the addition of perimeter fencing, and the installation of new lighting systems. These enhancements are designed to improve the quality of the venues and encourage greater community participation in physical activity.

In addition, a state-level committee has been formed. This body will be responsible for overseeing the execution of all projects, ensuring seamless cooperation between the three levels of government, and maintaining clear accountability throughout the process.

Mayor Rocío Adame emphasized that the investment in sports infrastructure is a direct contribution to public health and social well-being.
“Upgrading our sports facilities is not just about promoting sports; it is about strengthening our social fabric. By creating dignified and safe environments, we are providing healthier spaces for our children and youth,” the mayor said.
The local government has pledged its full commitment to working alongside federal and state partners to see these projects through, with the ultimate vision of positioning Rosarito as a model for community and sports development.
