A long-running Rosarito tradition will return on October 4, when the Fiesta de las Fronteras brings horseback riders and walkers together for a day centered on local history, Indigenous traditions and family activities.
Organized by the Rosarito Historical Society, the parade event commemorates historical political and religious divisions that took place in the Californias in 1773 and 1788, in areas that are now part of Playas de Rosarito.
The Celebration Begins Saturday
The weekend activities will begin on Saturday, October 3, when riders arriving from outside Rosarito will be welcomed near Fraccionamiento Cañaveral starting at 6 p.m.
The traditional welcome will include pozole before participants prepare for Sunday’s main activities.
On Sunday morning, after breakfast, riders will head to the Mojonera de Palou, where a religious and Kumiai ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m.
The morning program will also include the selection of the 2026 Cabalgata Queen and a traditional saddle raffle.
A Ride Through Rosarito’s Countryside
From Mojonera de Palou, the horseback route will continue toward Cañón del Morro and Rancho Hacienda Victoria, where participants will stop to rest before continuing toward Rancho San Patricio, in Cañón Rosarito.
The final gathering will feature live music, folkloric dances, food and time for families and participants to socialize.
Both the horseback ride and walking event are free and open to families.
What Participants Should Know
Organizers are asking everyone to bring enough water or other liquids and to avoid leaving trash along the route. Alcohol sales will not be permitted during the ride under municipal regulations.
The organizers also emphasize that the event is not a race. Riders are expected to follow the route, respect their horses’ need for rest and follow instructions from event captains and safety personnel.
Walkers are advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear, carry water or electrolyte drinks and bring light food. Minors must participate with a parent or legal guardian.
The organizers also ask participants not to take part while intoxicated and remind everyone that they participate voluntarily and at their own risk.
For those looking to experience one of Rosarito’s longstanding local traditions, the 38th Fiesta de las Fronteras Cabalgata and 37th Caminata will take place Sunday, October 4, with activities continuing through the countryside and historic areas of the municipality.
