TIJUANA, BC.- Defender Rachel Buehler, a Del Mar native from San Diego, California, took the name of her city all the way to London for the Olympic Games of 2012 as part of the US national soccer teams official roster that defeated France today, 4-2.
Buehler stepped into the field with her teammates Hope Solo as goalkeeper; Christie Rampone, Kelley OHara and Amy Le Peilbet in the back; Shannon Boxx, Megan Rapinoe and Tobin Heat on the midfield and Lauren Cheney, Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach on the front.
The San Diego native played the entire 90 minutes for the US this morning where Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan twice scored to give the US team the victory.
In the female division, the United States team is the favorite to take the gold medal in London, England.

Born on August 26, 1985 in Del Mar, California; Buehler had an extensive participation in female youth soccer before being called for the National Team.
A Torrey Pines High School graduate, Rachel was on the Palomar League for years; there, she was named Player of the Year on 2011 and 2002. She even was in the top team for 3 years in a row, 2000, 2001 and 2002.
She defended the San Diego Surfs colors for 7 years; there she was named Player of the Year in 2003 besides having been a part of the US Star Team U-16 and U-27.
In 2006 she joined the National US Team where she has played on 32 of the last 33 games.
