San Diego’s biggest and brightest celebration is back! If you’re after a fireworks display that truly delivers, the Big Bay Boom is your go-to event. This 4th of July, the city’s iconic bay will come alive with a spectacular pyrotechnic display.

What’s the Big Bay Boom All About?

Presented by the Port of San Diego, this is the largest fireworks show in Southern California. Explosions of color will launch from four barges positioned around the bay—Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, and South Embarcadero—lighting up the skyline for approximately 18 minutes.

The show is free to the public and kicks off right at 9:00 p.m., perfectly timed to a special soundtrack broadcast on 101.5 KGB.

Best Places to Watch the Show

Whether you’re arriving by car, on foot, or even by boat, there are several great spots to catch the fireworks display:

  • Shelter Island
  • Harbor Island
  • North Embarcadero
  • Marina District
  • Coronado Ferry Landing

You can also catch the fireworks from the water if you’re planning to watch aboard a boat. Just be sure to stay at least 1,000 feet away from the barges, wear a life jacket, and arrive well before sunset.

Transportation and Access

Due to the ongoing construction on Harbor Drive and the expected large crowds, driving is not recommended. Parking fills up quickly, so plan to arrive early and consider using public transportation or shuttle services.
