San Diego’s Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) announced it will provide expanded support to help residents get around during the holiday season, including adjusted schedules and added trolley service around major events.
On Christmas Day, MTS will operate on a Sunday schedule. Trolley service will also be increased ahead of the Wild Horses Music Festival, scheduled for Saturday, December 27, as officials anticipate higher ridership.
“Whether people are celebrating the holidays with loved ones or heading downtown for a night of live music, MTS is ready to offer a safe, affordable, and hassle-free transportation option,” the agency said in a statement.
As part of its Christmas Day promotions, MTS will offer its Friends Ride Free program, allowing each adult fare-paying rider to bring one guest at no additional cost.
Holiday service changes
All trolley lines will run every 30 minutes on Christmas Day, and most bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule. The Rapid Express routes 280 and 290, along with rural routes 888, 891, 892, and 894, will not operate.
MTS Access riders who still need service on Christmas Day are advised to call ahead to schedule their trips.
Holiday travelers can use direct airport connections via Route 992, located near Santa Fe Depot, or the San Diego Airport Flyer from the Old Town Transit Center.

The MTS Transit Store will be closed on Christmas Day. The Information and Trip Planning office will also be closed on December 25, but will operate on a modified schedule on December 24 from 5:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
