A full closure of northbound Interstate 805 will take place this weekend as crews work on a critical culvert replacement project, according to Caltrans.
The closure will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 1, and last until 5 a.m. on Monday, May 4. The affected stretch runs from State Route 52 to the Miramar Road and La Jolla Village Drive area.
The work is part of the I-805 North Drainage Culvert and Asset Management Project, which aims to improve drainage systems, pavement conditions, road safety, and access in a key corridor of northern San Diego County.
During the closure, drivers on northbound I-805 will be able to connect to westbound I-8 in order to reach northbound I-5 before the SR-52 detour. In University City, one right lane will remain open from Governor Drive to Nobel Drive.
Residents and business owners near Nobel Drive should expect construction noise and lighting throughout the weekend, as crews carry out the culvert replacement just south of the roadway.
The overall project spans 4.8 miles of Interstate 805, from north of SR-52 to the I-5/I-805 split. Meanwhile, MTS routes serving La Jolla and University City will continue to operate on their regular schedules.
