Looking to spend a night of wonder under the stars? San Diego’s Star Parties offer a free and unforgettable way to connect with nature, learn about the sky, and enjoy the outdoors with friends or family. Hosted by County Park Rangers and the San Diego Astronomy Association, these events combine stargazing, nocturnal hikes, and hands-on learning.

Starry Skies at Oakoasis County Preserve in San Diego

Nestled in Lakeside, Oakoasis County Preserve offers a special kind of magic after sunset. The evening begins with a twilight hike through the preserve, where you might catch a glimpse of local wildlife. Once darkness creeps in, astronomers set up high-powered telescopes to see planets, constellations, and other celestial sights up close.

When: On the second Saturday of each month.
Location: Oakoasis County Preserve, 12620 Wildcat Canyon Rd, Lakeside, CA 92040
Meeting point: Park entrance parking lot

Plan ahead

  • Bring warm clothing and a flashlight (lights off near telescopes).
  • Parking is free but limited.

Next Stargazing Party: Sycamore Canyon

Another Star Party will be held at Sycamore Canyon, near the SR-67 entrance.

When: Friday, June 27, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Address: Sycamore Canyon Preserve, 13898 CA-67, Lakeside, CA 92040
Important: Entry only from the southbound side of Highway 67

This free event welcomes visitors of all ages and features educational sessions and telescope viewings. Weather may affect the schedule, so be sure to confirm ahead of time.
