The Mexican Consulate General in San Diego announced it will temporarily waive appointment requirements for select identification services this week after a technical failure disrupted its scheduling system.
Beginning Tuesday, January 6, the consulate will accept walk-in clients seeking to obtain National Electoral Institute (INE) voter ID cards, Consular Registration Cards (Matrícula Consular), and Mexican passports. Officials said up to 100 people per day can be assisted without a prior appointment through Thursday, January 8.

The move offers a rare opportunity for Mexican nationals in the San Diego area who have struggled to secure appointments, as the consulate typically operates on an appointment-only basis for most services.
Under normal procedures, exceptions are usually limited to senior citizens and emergency cases. Officials did not specify when the scheduling system will be fully restored but encouraged applicants to arrive early due to limited daily capacity.
Consular staff said regular appointment-based services are expected to resume once technical issues are resolved.
