The San Diego Museum of Art (SDMA) is celebrating a major milestone: 100 years of bringing art and culture to the community.

Located in the heart of Balboa Park, the museum marked the occasion by sharing its journey on social media, reflecting on a century of sharing art, stories, and creativity.

“Since opening our doors in 1926, SDMA has grown alongside San Diego, welcoming generations of visitors and bringing art from around the world to Balboa Park,” the museum stated.

Get Ready for the 2026 Celebration!

The institution has planned a year-long celebration featuring special exhibitions, programs, and community-focused events designed for all ages.

The official centennial party took place on February 28, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the museum’s steps.

While tickets for the evening festivities were already sold out, the museum offered admission to all from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., ensuring the community could still be part of the historic day.

Those attending the evening celebration experienced live music and dance performances, family art activities, and interactive booths hosted by local artists. Food and drink highlights will include cake tastings paired with milk from Hollandia Dairy, Thrifty Ice Cream, and a selection of beverages including champagne, beer, and non-alcoholic options.
