Summer Movies in the Park, San Diego County’s largest outdoor film series, has officially returned, offering free family-friendly screenings in open-air venues along with themed activities.
Now in its 2026 season, the annual program kicked off in late May and will run through the end of October, featuring hundreds of movie screenings and opportunities for families to enjoy an evening out.

This year’s lineup includes beloved classics such as Shrek, Ghostbusters, Beauty and the Beast, and Ratatouille, as well as youth favorites like The Wild Robot, Minecraft: The Movie, Hoppers, Superman, and Zootopia 2.
Screenings begin approximately 15 minutes after sunset, typically around 8:15 p.m. Pre-show activities start after 5:30 p.m. Due to cooler evening temperatures, organizers recommend attendees bring blankets and warm clothing.

One of the season’s most anticipated events will take place on June 20 at Waterfront Park, where guests can enjoy a screening of KPop Demon Hunters accompanied by karaoke, celebrating the film’s first anniversary.
Launched in 2007 as an initiative to revitalize county parks, Summer Movies in the Park has since provided residents with the chance to enjoy films outdoors and under the stars.
Organizers note that movie titles and park locations vary throughout the season. Those interested in attending a specific screening are encouraged to confirm the venue in advance.
