CHULA VISTA – The U.S. Small Business Administration is to sign an alliance on Wednesday with a new Latino chamber of commerce to support one of the fastest-growing sectors in the economy.

The agreement with the Mexican-American Chamber of Commerce provides a framework for the organization's members to obtain information in Spanish about the variety of services provided by the SBA.

The chamber, based in Chula Vista, was formed to encourage the growth of Latino businesses, particularly in central and south San Diego County.

In a release issued Wednesday, the SBA said it will provide chamber members with up-to-date information about the wide range of services and activities the agency offers to support small business owners.

Details of the accord are to be released at the chamber's monthly meeting Wednesday in Chula Vista starting at 6 p.m.

"This agreement will help us serve the many small businesses that are in need of our services," Ruben Garcia, the SBA's district director, is quoted as saying in the release.

The number of Hispanic-owned businesses in the country is expected to grow more than 40 per cent through 2050, according to the Pew Hispanic Center, a national research institution.

The Cámara de Negocios Mexico-Americana (Canamexa) was founded over the summer to support Latino business owners to open, manage, promote and grow their companies through seminars, workshops and meetings conducted in Spanish.

The organization has more than 100 members, representing a wide range of businesses and services.
