The Easter holiday is gone and so is the off week of the National Cup.
The tournament took a weekend off last week but now teams are ready to get back into action. And some local teams are ready to pick up from their fast starts to the youth soccer tournament for players Under-14 to U-17.
The tournament began earlier this month with group play for most teams. The Cal South-sanctioned event runs through May with most championship matches being played the weekend of May 22.
A handful of San Diego teams are trying to reach the title matches. Those area teams that have already begun to make an impact are stacking up against some of the best clubs in California.
Aztecs FC of South San Diego came out to a fast start winning both of its group play matches. The club beat FC Irvine 3-1 in its first match and LAFC White of Pomona in their second group match by the same score.
That puts Aztecs FC in first place of Group F in the U-17 bracket, with six points. The second and third legs of group matches are slated for this Saturday and Sunday at the San Bernardino Sports Complex.
Other notable clubs from San Diego with standout results include Notts Forest FC of San Diego. The club also won both of its first two group matches taking first place in Group G, with six points.
Notts Forest is slated to take on CVU Blue of Thousand Oaks and Galaxy Banditz of Los Angeles this weekend.
But not all San Diego clubs are winning, especially in the U-15 bracket.
San Diego Surf Premier is the only team from San Diego with three points in the standings after winning its first Group G match.
Chula Vista United Rangers and Carlsbad Elite came away with a point as both teams tied in their first matches.
Aztecs FC, CSC San Diego, DMCV Sharks, PQ Premier and San Diego Surf's Academy, the club's second team in the U-15 bracket, all lost their first matches.
They will try to bounce back in the second leg, which could decide a slot into the playoff rounds.
Most girls clubs played one match the weekend of April 16 with some San Diego area clubs earning three points for a win.
San Diego Surf has two teams in the U-17 division and both came away with a win. So did San Diego FC United. That same club also earned a win in the U-18 bracket.
