Seven Detained Following Violent Incidents in Baja California

Following a series of violent incidents across multiple municipalities, authorities made arrests in Mexicali and Tijuana. Officials report no civilian injuries and confirm that mobility is operating normally.

A wave of violent incidents swept across several municipalities in Baja California today on Sunday, prompting a coordinated response from federal, state, and local security forces that resulted in the arrest of seven individuals. No civilian injuries were reported.

The state government reported that the wave of violence, which included 16 separate incidents, began early in the morning following the death of Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera. The majority of events were concentrated between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

The incidents consisted primarily of vehicle fires and were scattered across the state. Of the total, 7 occurred in Tijuana, 4 in Mexicali, 4 in Tecate, and 1 in San Quintín. Authorities confirmed that despite the disruptions, there were no roadblocks or highway closures, and traffic continued to flow normally throughout the state.

As a result of the subsequent ground operations, four individuals were apprehended in Mexicali and three in Tijuana.

In Mexicali, incidents were reported in Granjas Santa Cecilia (8:31 a.m.), Las Hadas (9:03 a.m.), Flores Magón (9:15 a.m.), and Villa Esperanza (2:33 p.m.). In Tijuana, reports were registered in Altamira – Downtown (8:03 a.m.), Colonia Castillo – Downtown (8:28 a.m.), Empleados Federales – Downtown (8:40 a.m.), San Antonio de los Buenos (10:12 a.m.), Playas de Tijuana, Laureles neighborhood (1:50 p.m.), La Mesa (2:03 p.m.), and Fernández Centenario (2:35 p.m.). In Tecate, incidents occurred at Km 37 of the Tecate–Ensenada highway, El Testerazo (7:34 a.m.), Rancho La Puerta on the free Tecate–Tijuana highway (8:23 a.m.), Rancho San José on the free Mexicali–Tecate highway (9:22 a.m.), and Lomas de Santa Anita (10:04 a.m.). In San Quintín, an event was reported at the entrance to Camalú, on the Ensenada–San Quintín highway (7:33 a.m.).

Authorities explained that these events are unfolding following recent federal operations, with continuous coordination maintained across all three levels of government.

Meanwhile, highways throughout the state remain open to traffic, with no blockades reported and toll booths operating as usual. Normal mobility is ensured for all travelers.

The state government expressed its appreciation for the coordinated efforts of the Mexican Army, National Guard, and state and municipal forces, as well as emergency services, who continue to monitor the situation closely and respond as needed.
