Mexico’s president said she held a phone call Monday with U.S. President Donald Trump, during which the two leaders discussed security, trade, investment, and recent speculation about a possible U.S. “intervention” in Mexican territory. President Claudia Sheinbaum said the conversation was conducted in a respectful tone and emphasized that bilateral cooperation is most effective when grounded in respect for each country’s sovereignty.

Sheinbaum said the leaders reviewed efforts to reduce drug trafficking, strengthen security coordination, and deepen commercial ties. She added that sustained dialogue between both governments allows progress on shared priorities without compromising Mexico’s autonomy.

“We had a very good conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump,” Sheinbaum wrote in a post on X. “We discussed a range of issues, including security with respect for our sovereignties, reducing drug trafficking, trade, and investment. Cooperation within a framework of mutual respect always delivers results.”

The Mexican president was joined on the call by Foreign Relations Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente Ramírez and Security and Citizen Protection Minister Omar García Harfuch, among other officials.
