Visitors are invited to enjoy an evening of celestial sights and natural beauty at the Oakoasis County Preserve this weekend. The San Diego County Department of Parks and Recreation will host a “Star Party” on Saturday, November 8, featuring a guided sunset hike and a night of stargazing.
The event runs from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at 12620 Wildcat Canyon Rd. It begins with a ranger-led hike through the scenic reserve as the sun sets, followed by an astronomy session led by members of the San Diego Astronomy Association, who will offer guests a closer look at the night sky through high-powered telescopes.
Cool evening temperatures may bring out local wildlife such as bats and scorpions before nightfall, adding to the experience for nature enthusiasts.

Tips for attendees
- Arrive early to secure a parking spot (spaces are free but limited).
- Dress warmly and bring a flashlight.
- Avoid pointing car headlights toward the telescope area to prevent disrupting the viewing.
As the event depends on weather conditions, visitors are encouraged to check for updates in case of clouds or rain by calling (858) 699-8668 before heading out.
