Everything You Need to Know About the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon in San Diego
The main attraction will see approximately 70 talented surfing dogs play in 10-minute qualifying rounds starting at 8:00 a.m. The four-legged athletes will be divided by weight classes and judged on their ability to confidently catch waves and maintain their balance on the board. The top three winners in each category will receive prizes, with each first-place finisher advancing to the coveted “Best In Surf” championship round.
Additionally, organizers have introduced a freestyle surf contest designed to showcase creativity. In this division, dogs can surf in tandem with their owners, and competitors will be rewarded for impressive acrobatics, clever tricks, and entertaining costumes.

While admission to the event is completely free, attendees are warmly invited to make a donation and enjoy a variety of activities beyond the main event, including food vendor stalls, live music, canine costume contests, and other surprises. All of the proceeds will go directly to supporting the programs at the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
