Tacos El Franc, the iconic Tijuana taqueria recognized by the Michelin Guide, is rapidly expanding its presence in the United States. Just weeks after the successful debut of its first location in National City—which has seen long lines since day one—the restaurant is gearing up to open its second spot in San Diego.
The new Tacos El Franc location will be at 528 Fifth Avenue in the historic Gaslamp Quarter, just a few blocks from Petco Park. Set to open in late summer 2025, this spot promises to bring the full flavor of authentic Tijuana-style tacos to Downtown San Diego.

Though smaller than the Plaza Bonita location, the new Gaslamp taqueria will deliver the same culinary experience. Expect their famous adobada tacos, juicy grilled carne asada, and a variety of mulitas, quesadillas, tostadas, and “vampiro” tacos filled with lengua (beef tongue), cabeza (beef head), and suadero (brisket).
And for those leaving a Padres game craving delicious Tijuana-style tacos with handmade tortillas, spicy salsas, and a touch of avocado, Tacos El Franc will stay open late into the night.

Tacos El Franc Continues Expansion Across Southern California
Founded in 1974 as a humble street cart by Javier Valadez, Tacos El Franc gained popularity after being featured in the Michelin Guide Mexico 2024 and Netflix’s Taco Chronicles series.
The National City location, inside the Westfield Plaza Bonita mall, officially opened on June 11 and has been consistently packed with long lines of eager diners. Due to its warm reception, Tacos El Franc is moving forward with expansion plans in Los Angeles and Fresno. For updates on upcoming U.S. locations, visit tacoselfrancusa.com.
