Taste of the Northwest: Free Culinary Festival Returns to Tijuana’s Avenida Revolución

From birria to banda, Tijuana will come alive this weekend with a culinary and cultural festival open to residents and tourists alike.

Tijuana’s Avenida Revolución will turn into a hub of regional flavor this Saturday as the free “Tijuana Me Encantas: Sabores del Noroeste” festival brings together food, music, and family-friendly activities in the city’s historic downtown.

The festival runs from noon to 4 p.m. at Avenida Revolución and 7th Street and will spotlight signature dishes from across Mexico’s northwest. Visitors can sample coastal specialties from Sinaloa, the Riviera Nayarit’s staples, and traditional fare from Durango and Baja California Sur — all offered as free tastings. A dedicated children’s area will also be available.

Chef Ernesto Zamora, founder of Maximiliano Bistro and one of the festival’s organizers, said the event reflects both the region’s culinary identity and the community behind it.

“This event represents our profession and the evolution of gastronomy,” he said. “It’s not just chefs — it’s restaurateurs, families, and students coming together to share our passion and create an experience people will remember.”

Tijuana’s Signature Dish Takes Center Stage

Tijuana’s booth will highlight its adopted staple: birria. The city’s team plans to offer creative takes on the dish, including birria tacos, birria tamales, and frijoles puercos with birria — a nod to Tijuana’s reputation for reinventing classic recipes.

“The goal is for each state to showcase its iconic cuisine and share that authentic taste with our neighbors from Southern California and across Baja California.”

Local Bands to Headline the Festival

Food isn’t the only draw. The afternoon will feature live performances by Tijuana groups Banda Coloso, Explosión Norteña, and TJ5, bringing norteño and banda music to the heart of Avenida Revolución. Organizers describe the gathering as a celebration of the city’s culture, pride, and community spirit as much as a culinary event.
