In his first major address to the community, Tecate Mayor Román Cota delivered his First Results Report on Saturday evening, outlining a year of significant progress focused on social welfare, cultural revival, and urban improvement.
“The people don’t need promises, they need results. In Tecate, the transformation is moving forward with a very clear principle: that every decision generates well-being for our people,” the mayor said as he began his speech.
A central achievement highlighted was the distribution of over 50,000 social support items through the city’s “Bienestar” programs. This comprehensive aid included essential goods and services such as eyeglasses, food baskets, bags of cement, medical consultations and surgeries, utility bill support, and school uniforms and scholarships.
The mayor also emphasized a revitalization of the city’s cultural identity. Events like “Tecate en Marcha” and the fair were celebrated as major successes, offering five days of music and local cuisine and reinforcing community pride.
On the urban development front, the transformation was visible in public spaces. The administration pointed to upgraded sports facilities, more dignified and secure for families. A collaborative “adopt-a-green-space” program was also credited with the recovery of over 70 public areas through partnerships with local businesses, associations, and residents.
Improvements in city services were quantified with concrete figures: the repair and installation of more than 600 streetlights, the addition of five new garbage trucks, and the creation of 215 new collection routes. These efforts have expanded garbage collection coverage to 97% of the municipality.
“Thank you for your trust, patience, and commitment. I know that your conviction, loyalty, and love for our dear Tecate are stronger. I can only tell you thank you, because thanks to you, I can tell you that it will be worth it,” the mayor said.
The event was attended by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, local and federal deputies, senators, and government officials. Also in attendance were UABC Rector, Luis Enrique Palafox; the President of Ieebc, Luis Alberto Hernández; and the President of the Superior Court of Justice, Isaac Fregoso, among others.
