Can you imagine tasting a traditional taco from every state in Mexico without leaving town? That’s exactly what awaits you at “El Gran Taco de México” (The Great Mexican Taco), a free festival happening May 1 and 2 at the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT).
At the opening ceremony, Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz underlined the festival’s role in the 2025 Tianguis Turístico (Tourism Tianguis), celebrating the international recognition Tijuana tacos have earned. He proudly referenced the Michelin honor awarded to “Tacos El Franc,” a local favorite.

“To talk about tacos in Tijuana is to talk about tradition, passion, and a flavor that has earned national and international acclaim,” said the mayor, inviting families, visitors, and taco lovers to explore this flavorful journey through the country. “There’s no better way to discover Mexico than through its outstanding cuisine.”
Governor Marina del Pilar echoed that excitement and praised the success of the Tianguis Turístico, calling it a heartfelt celebration.
“It’s an event created for the people of Baja California and for those visiting from Mexico and abroad, so they may experience our rich gastronomy and culture,” she noted.

What to expect at El Gran Taco de México
The festival gathers traditional cooks and taquerías from across Mexico, each bringing their region’s distinct culinary identity. From Mexico City-style al pastor tacos to Michoacán’s succulent carnitas, there’s truly something for everyone.

A standout attraction is the cutting of the massive taco: a 23-meter-long handmade corn tortilla filled with carne asada, adobada, onions, cilantro, and salsa, shared with guests free of charge.

The festival also features live entertainment, including folk dances, mariachis, norteño music, and a performance from Takón Machine. The event runs from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., though music starts at noon.
