The 40th edition of the Book Fair in Tijuana’s East Zone, a cornerstone of the Municipal Government’s cultural initiative, has concluded with resounding success, reporting a massive 53% increase in attendance compared to the previous year.

In his First Activity Report, Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz highlighted the fair as a flagship program for social and educational impact. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to bringing culture and art to every corner of the city as a preventive strategy for social transformation.

“I am convinced that culture, with its different art forms, is the most powerful tool we have to rebuild the social fabric. It helps us build bridges to reinforce us living together, teach values, and lay the foundations for resolving conflicts peacefully. Investing in culture is investing in the peace of Tijuana, as was clearly demonstrated in the 40th edition of the Book Fair,” the mayor said.

The cultural policies driving events like the book fair are aligned with the broader strategies of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, focusing on rebuilding the community’s social fabric through accessible art and knowledge.

The fair’s success was not only cultural but also economic. The event generated a significant financial spillover of more than 5.4 million pesos into the local economy. A substantial portion of this came from robust book sales, which totaled over 4.1 million pesos, providing a vital boost to local bookstores and publishers.

“The 40th Tijuana Book Fair was held at El Trompo Museum and was visited by 46,023 people. This is 53% more than last year. With 37,603 general visitors and 8,420 students, this result reflects a sustained interest from the people of Tijuana, attracted by literature, art, gastronomy, and entertainment,” the mayor said.

Beyond the bookshelves, the fair served as a vibrant hub for Tijuana’s independent art scene. It featured and supported local talents such as Corrientes, Ambos Project, Yuko Stuff, and Serijuana, showcasing the city’s diverse cultural wealth and creating a dynamic meeting point for artists and the public.

With this successful report, Mayor Burgueño’s administration reaffirms its commitment to leveraging culture and art as primary tools for the continued transformation and well-being of Tijuana.
