TIJUANA.- Singer Jenni Rivera will be headlining the concert to be held in honor of Tijuana's anniversary, the city will be turning 123 next July 11.
The city council has made public the schedule to celebrate the "Coqueta Tijuana" with cultural, sport and gastronomic events.
The "Opera on the Street" is the first activity in the Libertad Quarter, a festival where this important musical genre is revived and taken precisely to the street so there are no excuses to not go to the theater, where it's usually performed.
Starting from 12 at noon, 5th street will be the main protagonist of music, dance, art and gastronomy, an ideal event to attend with the family and totally free, too.
Next Tuesday, July 10, at midnight everyone's invited to the Teniente Guerrero Park, located between 3rd and 4th street in Downtown Tijuana; there Las Mañanitas (Mexican equivalent of Happy Birthday to You) will be sung to the city.
For the sports fans the Tijuana 2012's Marathon will be held on the Sunday July 15 on the Héroes Avenue, Río Quarter.
And to entertain the palate, the "Festival de las Brasas, la Cerveza y el Vino" (Barbeque, Beer and Wine Fest) will take place in the Caliente Hippodrome's parking lot starting from 1pm on July 22.
The 5th History Symposium will be held on July 26 and 27, Thursday and Friday, respectively at the Municipal Institute of Arts & Culture at 9 am.
Jenni Rivera will sing in the Río quarter where attendees will be able to enjoy hits like "Inolvidable", "Basta Ya" and "¿Por qué no le calas?" on August 4 completely free of charge.
The Musical Legends of Tijuana will take over Revolution Avenue on Sunday August 12 from 2nd street to the 6th.
Tijuana is also a fashion city and that is why the "Vintage" fashion show around the pool of the Lázaro Cárdenas Federal High School at 8pm.
With a popular open-air festival and the performance of the Carmen opera, the San José Ring in Tijuana Beach will reopen from August 30 to September 01.
The best photographs of Tijuana will be awarded during the "Tijuana in Pictures" competition on Saturday September 22.
