Tijuana City Hall Reaffirms Commitment to Women on 23rd Anniversary of IMMUJER

Over 10,000 women have benefited from IMMUJER under the administration of Mayor Ismael Burgueño of Tijuana.

As part of the commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of the Municipal Women’s Institute (IMMUJER), Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana reaffirmed his government’s firm commitment to the well-being of women in the city.

The mayor highlighted that, since the beginning of his administration, a total of 10,854 women have benefited from IMMUJER’s programs. Among the most notable initiatives are 581 psychological sessions, 728 legal consultations, the creation of 20 new Puntos Naranja (Orange Spots), and 59 educational workshops for students, businesses, and public officials.

“This Institute is and will continue to be key for the Municipal Government in implementing actions to promote gender equality and eradicate violence and discrimination against women. In this regard, with the creation of the Secretariat of Women, we have strengthened programs to ensure more women know and exercise their rights, while fostering a culture of respect and dignity,” said Mayor Burgueño Ruiz of Tijuana.

The mayor also emphasized that Tijuana is the only municipality in Baja California with a comprehensive program to prevent, address, punish, and eradicate violence against women, taking solid steps toward building a Tijuana free of violence for women.

“The message must be clear: in Tijuana, women are not alone. They have the municipal government’s support and backing, and there will be no tolerance for any act that threatens their physical, psychological, or any other form of integrity,” he said.

Tijuana City Hall Strengthens Support for Women Through IMMUJER

Municipal Ombudswoman Teresita Balderas Beltrán noted that this municipal administration has promoted women’s support programs with the sole goal of providing greater benefits to Tijuana’s women.

During her remarks, IMMUJER Director Araceli Márquez Peña explained that the institute’s main goal is to promote gender equality, eliminate discrimination against women, improve their living conditions, and increase their participation in all areas of society.

As part of the ceremony, Orange Spots were reactivated across the city’s nine municipal delegations to continue providing safe spaces and protection for Tijuana’s girls and women.

Attending the 23rd-anniversary event were Councilor Magaly Ronquillo Palacios; Baja California’s INMUJER Director, Mónica Vargas Núñez; Director of Crime Prevention and Citizen Participation, María Luisa Munguía; Federal Deputy Ana Erika Santana González; and Local Deputy Evelyn Sánchez.

The 25th Tijuana City Hall reaffirms its commitment to preventing and combating gender-based violence by promoting public policies that advance the construction of a municipality where respect for women’s dignity and human rights prevails. It also seeks to facilitate mechanisms for women’s autonomy and their participation in all sectors of society.
