Tijuana’s government, led by Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, invested over 93 million pesos last year in a credit program designed to support self-employment and small businesses. Through the initiative, 1,882 local entrepreneurs received direct loans aimed at strengthening the city’s economy.

“Every loan we provide is a vote of confidence in the people of Tijuana, who work tirelessly to build a better future,” Mayor Burgueño said. “In this administration, there are no middlemen—resources go directly and transparently to those investing in themselves through self-employment and entrepreneurship.”

Pedro Montejo Peterson, head of Tijuana’s Department of Economic Development (SEDETI), explained that the city hosted three major loan disbursement events in 2025 to ensure wide and equitable access. The largest, on December 2 at the Monumento a la Madre, awarded 932 loans totaling nearly 46.8 million pesos. Previous events were held on May 27 in La Presa Abelardo L. Rodríguez, with 466 loans worth 22.8 million pesos, and on August 22 at the Municipal Palace, distributing 484 loans totaling 23.5 million pesos.

SEDETI also provided an integrated support system, including 20 specialized training sessions throughout the year. Workshops covered administrative, financial, and productive skills to help entrepreneurs sustain their businesses long term.

The program further encourages business formalization, connects recipients to other municipal services, and ensures ongoing follow-up to strengthen local economic stability.

The 2025 results highlight Tijuana’s commitment to fostering self-employment and empowering local entrepreneurs through direct financial aid, training, and mentorship—building a foundation for stronger communities and family well-being across the city.
