Medical tourism has been growing during recent years in Tijuana, and to help it grow even more, the Hospital Oasis of Playas de Tijuana opened a new floor where patients and families can stay while receiving various of the health services they offer.
The Director of Hospital Services of the institution,Gaston Tessada, explained that this is an exclusive floor for elective surgery patients who come with companions, where they are given a comfortable room while waiting to get treatment from the medical personnel.
He explained that this initiative arose from the need to help foreign patients who come to the city to have some surgery. Since more than 50 years ago he has treated thousands of people from Europe and North America.
"The rooms we have offer Netflix, HBO GO, and other American channels, and they all have separate bathrooms, we are now into our first month using these rooms and we already had around 100 surgeries with American patients under this new gentler and functional concept," he said.
Gaston Tessada added that patients receive specialized attention here, making an appointment with a group of professionals, taking patients' calls from all over the world requesting information.
Patients receive great attention since their first contact, then some well-trained personnel helps them organize their flights and, in some cases, even see the tourist sites of the region.
Tessada said that to provide quality medical services they are working hand in hand with the National Council of Medical Specialties (CONACEM).

"The doctors who work with us have to be certified, as our facilities can be used by external professional staff as long as they comply with this standard, representing greater confidence for patients," he said.
Finally, he mentioned that currently, the hospital is making agreements with the major insurance companies in Mexico to expand medical tourism in the hospital and increase the number of national and international medical tourists.
